Seeing Wen Ying grovel before Shouxue was such a shock to me, I was wondering why he was reacting to the conversation between her and Gaojun regarding Yi Siha but learning what he's been through and how her standing up for Yi Siha moved him made me realize just how much of an impact she had on him and how that unjust feeling has stayed with him throughout the years.

Gaojun continuing to open a path to Shouxue's heart by aiming for her stomach is always fun to see because of reactions, both don't know how to approach friendship but it's nice to see them go into it blindly regardless.

I can't fucking believe her VA is a literal nobody (IIRC she only has like 2-3 roles besides this, at least based on MAL)

NewWeeb • 1 year ago

I think she debuted as Rena from Selection Project, really nice to see her in 2 major roles this season (she also voices Ryo from Bocchi the Rock)

Ikr... It's always nice to hear new voices. What's the point of hearing the same people over and over again? It's like the rich getting richer lmao.

aria980 • 1 year ago

It's because we love their voices and want to continue hearing their voices! And sometimes they do roles they never did before and we are interested to hear how different they sound or how they will portray the roles.

Anigirl • 1 year ago

That is nice to know. I hope she will have more roles in the future.

Jerome W Bison • 1 year ago

Looked her up brought it to our attention. At 23 years old, Saku Mizuno is very new to the VA industry.

Of the 6 roles she has done, 3 of them are named characters including this role here. The rest are literally background characters.

After seeing most of the court bowing, both casually and formally, seeing someone grovel and it being the stoic Wen especially made my eyes wide. I swear, this show is a gem in impactful subtlety. Poor lute player...

Momoka_yukon • 1 year ago

this show is too underrated

I came for the history, got surprised by the mystery, but stayed for the romance xD.

Düölingöhhh Snorlax • 1 year ago

Romance? :o

Indeed it is T_T

I seriously didn't expect to be enjoying this anime as much as I am. I usually avoid Chinese animes, specifically because I hate the sound of Chinese VAs. But once I realized this was voiced in Japanese, I gave 5 minutes of it a shot and found myself hooked. A big reason I stuck with this though is definitely because of Shouxue. She's so beautiful and I love her design.

Homura Akemi • 1 year ago

It's Japanese anime, not Chinese. The adaptation is based on a Japanese manga by a Japanese mangaka, just that the story is Chinese related.

Jacman99 • 1 year ago

Ah I see, that makes more sense. Thank you

Kwarevo • 1 year ago

Resurrection, there's no way she can't do that.
Just go to Orochimaru

Or just move on. But I guess it's easier said than done huh...

Whoa i was NOT ready for the sudden Wei Ying backstory to just drop like a bomb

Eunuchs should be treated better.

Jacman99 • 1 year ago

I mean yeah, I recently learned just today after a quick Google search, that all (or perhaps most) Eunuch's are castrated (in other words, their genitals are removed). Like jeez that's fked up

Auroris • 6 months ago

This is the main reason I have trouble watching this show tbh. Just knowing all the eunuchs are walking around dickless makes me so uncomfortable.

vovan1 • 1 year ago

Yeah, Male prostitutes have rights too!

Jacman99 • 1 year ago

Funny you say that, apparently all/most Eunuch's are castrated

Judgment526 • 1 year ago

Yes, a eunuch is, by definition, castrated.

It’s to prevent them from potentially having affairs and conceiving children with any court ladies they might be in service to or otherwise have contact with.

Jacman99 • 1 year ago

Ohhh, that's why. What if they serve a court man - if that's a such thing that exists? Do they still need to be castrated?

Judgment526 • 1 year ago

Yes, even if they serve a male, because they still get to roam around the palace grounds, so castrating them minimizes the risks.

vovan1 • 1 year ago

yep, that's why emperor allows them to entertain his women.

Jacman99 • 1 year ago

Entertain? How so exactly?

vovan1 • 1 year ago

like you guessed it.

Glinda • 1 year ago

That was sad , this really interesting. I wander what happen to the Shouxue at the end??? There is a possibility that it is has something to do with the woman that came to her at the beginning? Or maybe because she now have some people around her?
This anime just so good!!!

I'm thinking those wires represent her bonds with the others.

Maria • 1 year ago

I was thinking the wires were Niao Lan pulling against whatever sorcery is keeping her chained to the palace and the house of the Raven consort.

Angélique Roux • 1 year ago

You think Niao Lan is good? I wonder. Can't wait for the next episode ^^

Maria • 1 year ago

I think she's good like a spirit/god is good. Niao Lan doesn't have the concepts of good and evil like other human beings do. She has her own concept of what is good and what is evil according to what she values (like her hating all flowers except the one's created by the Raven Consort.)

Derwin Monthe • 1 year ago

I hope The Apothecary Diaries gets animated

reiko • 1 year ago

I hope that too!! that one is really good

toling54 • 1 year ago

speaking of this, a new chapter of the manga is released xD

Jacman99 • 1 year ago

I suppose this is a good manga you've been looking forward to seeing adapted?

ramenmen • 1 year ago

I've been waiting for that as well, the story is sooo good

reiko • 1 year ago

Gaojun is using friends card wisely on Shouxue ;)
good to see this series getting a bit more attention!

ideaneva • 1 year ago

Storytelling of koukyuu no karasu never disappoints me. By the way being eunuch is a tough job.

Terry Cruise • 1 year ago

My favorite part of the episode was how she didn't even hesitate to go for the food Gaojun brought her. She's slowly warming up to him

Nymphaea • 1 year ago

Oh my god Wen Ying's backstory :((( I'm glad he has a good master in Shouxue to serve now, and seeing him kowtow to beg that she also take in Siha got me all teary

That post credits scene though... something is about to happen with Niao Lian! Nine strings for the nine people she's formed a bond with but wasn't supposed to?

It's my first time watching Chinese romance Donghua with 2D animation.

I love to watch more if this Donghua get another season.

Lucy Heartfilia • 1 year ago

It's actually not Chinese Donghua, but anime produced by Japan. The setting is the Tang dynasty of China and the charcters are of course chinese but this is produced by Japan and anime. This is also the reason this animation doesn't have an Emperor who thinks he's a God and is rude to the MC, because it's produced by Japan. Hope that helps!

AnimeSenpai2003 • 1 year ago

👌👍👍

SD • 1 year ago

I'm pretty sure the LN is written by a Japanese person, and the animation studio is also Japanese.

Billy Bob • 1 year ago

it is

AnimeSenpai2003 • 1 year ago

I think it's Japanese dub version, the culture they follow in there is Chinese I'm not very familiar with Chinese culture or it could be Japanese because both countries culture are very similar.

But if you say so☺️

Nana • 1 year ago

The story takes place in China, but the writer and producers are Japanese. Is it that hard to understand??? *facepalm*
